The five-star restaurant was filled with quiet conversations and the soft sound of glasses.
At the center of the room, Andrei suddenly knelt in front of Sophia.
He opened a small ring box.
Inside was a beautiful diamond ring.
“Sophia, will you marry me?”
The surrounding guests turned to watch.
For a moment, Sophia said nothing.
Then she looked around the restaurant and laughed nervously.
“I can’t marry someone who has nothing.”
The room became silent.
Andrei stared at her.
Sophia continued:
“I want security. A real future. Love alone doesn’t pay for a home or build the life I want.”
A few guests looked away uncomfortably.
Andrei did not argue.
He slowly closed the ring box.
Then he stood up.
“I understand.”
At that exact moment, the restaurant doors opened.
A man wearing a pilot uniform entered.
He looked around, spotted Andrei and walked directly toward him.
“Mr. Andrei, your helicopter is ready.”
Sophia’s smile disappeared.
The guests turned toward Andrei.
She stared at him.
“Your helicopter?”
Andrei calmly put the ring box into his pocket.
The pilot handed him a folder.
“The flight to your family estate is cleared. Your guests are already waiting.”
Sophia could barely speak.
During their relationship, Andrei had lived simply.
He drove an ordinary car, avoided expensive clothes and never spoke about his family’s wealth.
Sophia had assumed he had nothing.
But Andrei was the heir to a successful family business and had built several companies of his own.
He had never hidden his identity to trick her.
He simply wanted to know whether someone could love him without being impressed by what he owned.
Sophia took a step toward him.
“Andrei, wait. I didn’t know.”
He looked at her calmly.
“That’s the problem.”
She froze.
“You knew who I was when you thought I had nothing. And that was the person you rejected.”
Sophia lowered her eyes.
“I made a mistake.”
Andrei nodded.
“Yes. But the mistake wasn’t thinking I was poor.”
He paused.
“It was believing that a person with less money deserves less love and respect.”
The restaurant remained silent.
Andrei thanked the staff, then walked toward the exit with the pilot.
Sophia stayed beside the table, staring at the place where the ring box had been.
She had believed she was rejecting a man with nothing.
Only later did she understand that wealth had never been the real test that evening.
Character was.
And Andrei had finally received the answer he needed before making the most important decision of his life.
