Alex walked out of the luxury office building with his phone in one hand and a leather briefcase in the other.
He looked successful, confident, and untouchable. His black car was waiting near the sidewalk, and people moved around him without noticing the moment that was about to change everything.
Then he saw her.
Across the busy street stood Elena.
For a few seconds, Alex could not move.
She was standing near a corner with four children beside her. Her clothes were simple, her face was tired, and in her hands she held a small cardboard sign asking for help.
Alex stared at her in disbelief.
Years ago, Elena had been strong, beautiful, and full of life. She had smiled like nothing in the world could break her.
