The maternity ward was unusually quiet that afternoon.
Emma lay in her hospital bed, exhausted after complications during her pregnancy. Doctors had ordered complete rest until the baby was safely delivered.
The door opened.
Her husband, Michael, walked into the room with another woman beside him.
Without even asking how Emma felt, he looked at her with disappointment.
“Look at yourself. You can’t even get out of that bed.”

She was too hurt to answer.
The woman beside Michael smiled with quiet satisfaction.

“There’s nothing left to talk about.”
He left the room with the woman.

Two police officers stepped in front of Michael.
“Stop. You are being accused of fraud.”
Michael froze.
“What are you talking about?”
The officer calmly explained that investigators had gathered evidence showing that several financial documents connected to Michael’s business had allegedly been falsified. A court had authorized the next stage of the investigation, and he was required to accompany the officers.
The woman beside him stepped back in panic.
“This must be a mistake!”
The officers remained calm and professional.
At that moment, Emma slowly opened the hospital room door.
