Emily was walking home with her mother when she noticed a boy sitting alone in a dark, rainy alley. His clothes were soaked, his hands were shaking, and he looked too weak to ask anyone for help.
Without saying a word, Emily took a sandwich from her bag and walked toward him.
“Take it… you can,” she said gently.
The boy looked up with tired eyes, accepted the sandwich with trembling hands, and whispered, “Thank you…”
Emily hugged him for a brief moment, trying to comfort him.
Suddenly, her mother rushed into the alley and called out sharply, “Emily, get away from him.”
But then she saw the boy’s face.
Her bag slipped from her hand and fell to the wet ground. She couldn’t move. The dirty face, the frightened eyes, the small scar near his eyebrow… everything came back to her at once.
The boy looked up at her and whispered, “Mom…?”
Tears filled her eyes.
Years earlier, she had been told her son was gone forever. She had searched, cried, and lived with that pain every day. But now he was right in front of her, cold, hungry, and alive.
She fell to her knees and pulled him into her arms.
“I’m here,” she cried. “I’m here now. I’ll never lose you again.”
Emily stood silently beside them, realizing she had not just helped a stranger — she had brought her mother back to the son she thought she had lost forever.
